My Story
Paul Squirrell is a portrait photographer located here in Holbrook, near Ipswich, Suffolk with over twenty years experience.
My aim is to take the best photograph of YOU that you’re ever had.
Relax - it’s my job to create the best conditions for you to experience a photo session with us.
That can be in our studios, at home or in a local beauty spot like Alton Water.

Origins:
I was an Army officer, management accountant and briefly a school bursar before becoming a photographer.
Some would say that’s an unlikely foundation for a portrait photographer……I’m not going there!
However, I’ve always wanted to work for myself and it had to be something I enjoyed. So when I left the Army, I was on the look out for opportunities.
The moment came when I discovered - a photography franchise. Brian Barrett and Andrew Coe were marvellous teachers and took me through all aspects of photography; studios, weddings, portraits, graduations, babies and nurseries.
As I waited for my commute to Norwich for my lessons, my platform was virtually empty whilst the London bound side was packed. I remember thinking “YES, this is right” ; Lowry's little stick figures came to mind.
My wedding photography was successful and I made many friends both as clients and fellow traders within the profession. At that time the emphasis was on wedding photography and not so much on portraits although looking back I photographed a lot of families and their babies.

My time in the franchise passed very quickly as I decided to branch out on my own. It’s been a steep learning curve but I’ve learned an enormous amount as the industry has evolved through film to digital.
I discovered a wonderful New Zealander named Sue Bryce. She is singlehandedly changing the face of contemporary portraiture worldwide. I wish I had heard about Sue earlier; I have learnt so much from her and I look forward to meeting her in person.
The landscape is totally different now and the variety of photographic products is stunning. I can’t wait to photograph you and show you!
